Most homes in our area run on one of three fuels, and most heating firms only hold the ticket for one of them. That is why a household switching from oil to gas, or running an LPG bulk tank alongside a solid fuel backup, so often ends up calling two or three different companies to get one system looked at.
Keystone holds both OFTEC registration for oil and Gas Safe registration for gas and LPG, so the same team can diagnose a fault, service the appliance and sign the work off whichever fuel is involved. If a repair is uneconomic we will say so, and price the replacement rather than quietly patching it.
Signs worth acting on
No hot water or heating
A boiler that fires and then locks out, or will not fire at all, usually points at ignition, the fuel supply or a failed sensor. All three are diagnosable on the first visit.
Radiators cold at the bottom
Sludge collecting in the system stops water reaching the lower part of the panel. A powerflush clears it and restores output you are already paying to generate.
Rising fuel use
A system burning noticeably more oil or gas for the same comfort is usually losing efficiency somewhere — a failing pump, poor combustion settings or a scaled heat exchanger.
Staining or soot around the boiler
Any sign of incomplete combustion needs looking at promptly. Stop using the appliance and call a registered engineer rather than waiting for the next service.

Common questions
Once a year is the standard interval for oil, gas and LPG appliances alike. Most manufacturers also make an annual service a condition of keeping the warranty valid, so skipping one can cost more than it saves.
OFTEC is the recognised registration scheme for oil heating work in the UK. It covers installing, commissioning and servicing oil-fired appliances and the tanks and supply pipework that feed them. Registered technicians can also self-certify the relevant Building Regulations work.
Yes. Anyone carrying out work on gas or LPG appliances in the UK must be on the Gas Safe Register. It is a legal requirement, not a trade preference, and it applies to LPG bulk tanks and cylinders just as it does to mains gas.
Yes — tank removal, replacement, relocation and new platforms are all part of our oil work. Siting has to satisfy fire separation and spillage containment requirements, which is one of the things OFTEC registration exists to certify, so it is worth getting right rather than moving a tank informally.
It is worth doing where the symptoms point to it — cold spots at the bottom of radiators, a noisy boiler, or dirty water when you bleed a panel. It is not a routine annual job, and any engineer recommending one should be able to show you why your system needs it.
System conversion is work we take on. Because it touches both fuels it normally needs two registrations, which is exactly the situation holding OFTEC and Gas Safe together is meant to simplify.
